Digital Picture Basics

Yes talking basics here.

If you want to buy an item from any store in your neighborhood I am sure you have noticed how your senses are a major factor in your choices.

If not then the next time you go shopping pay attention to what you are buying and why.
Think about what appeals to you? Why did you pick that brand compared to those that are about the same item?
The only thing you can not do yet when buying online is to taste or smell what you are buying.

So you need to try to come as close to this as possible.
One way you do this is with clear, clean pictures.

Digital cameras have come down far in prices over the years and you now can get a very nice one at a very good investment.

Here are some pointers that you should try to implement when taking your pictures with a digital camera.

Use a simple background
An uncluttered background brings attention to the product you are auctioning for sale. Place your product against a plain, clean, non-distracting background.

You can choose to create your own studio as well.
Just a simple setup outside or inside by a window is all you need.
Create a plain background by draping a bath towel or solid-color sheet over something or tacking it to the wall.
Smooth out any large folds.

Try to avoid severely harsh bright lights as this will cause an reflection back on the lens when the camera shoots the picture.

Look through the display screen to see what your potential buyer will see.
If you see any dirt, dust, food etc. clean your area instead of shooting the picture.

For close-ups with a digital camera, use the display screen to compose the picture. Then take three large steps back and zoom in! That is the key to getting great non fuzzy close up shots.
Never take a digital close up right on top of the item. Always step back then zoom in.

Also picture editing software will help you to adjust things such as brightness, color. You also should crop out any extra background that you do not need this will aid in helping your picture to show faster to your potential customer.

We recommend picasa for editing it is freeware you can find it here:
Download Picasa
Picasa will also crop your pictures and compress them. It also makes it very easy to find your pictures on your system with a wonderful album feature!
